I would like to make one minor factual correction to your report on the aftermath of the Docklands Light Railway tunnel blow-out (NCE last week).
The revision of BS 6164 'Safety in tunnelling', was not prompted by the incident but was already under way as part of BSI's normal standards revision programme when the blowout occurred.
Some credit for the inclusion of guidance in BS 6164 on blowout prevention is indirectly due to NCE. The drafting committee happened to meet on the day your original report on the incident was published and the committee recognised from your report that there was an issue to be addressed in the standard.
