Piling system makes UK debut

Foundations :

A new ductile piling system originally developed in Germany and Austria is being introduced into the UK by Bauer Foundations (UK). Based on 5m long centrifugally cast spheroidal graphite ductile iron pipes with conical sockets and spigots, the system is said to be ideal for a range of foundations and floor slabs.

When driven by a standard pneumatic piling hammer, the spigot/socket joint is rigid and strong in tension. On cohesionless soils, the piles can be grouted during driving via a port in the driving shoe.

Bauer claims the main advantage of the ductile pile system is the ease and speed of installation and the ease of handling of the relatively short piles.
