Piling starts for new Gibraltar hotel

Roger Bullivant (Gibraltar) has just started piling work for a development which will see a five-star hotel added to Gibraltar’s tourism offer by the end of the year.

The foundations work will create a jetty at Ocean Village where the Sunborn Yacht Hotel, which has already started its journey from Finland, will be moored and open as a hotel in late 2013.

Test piles were installed last month and work on installing the steel tube piling is now underway with crews working from a 200t barge. The piles will be vibrated through soft deposited and then installed into sockets drilled into the rock before being backfilled with concrete and reinforcement.
