Methods to apply modern information and communication technology (ICT) to collaborative working are to be investigated for the piling sector in a joint study being carried out by consultant Buro Happold and groundwork contractor Stent. The aim is to identify best practice for data exchange. The nine month project is the first satellite contract for the Department of Trade & Industry funded 'Partners in Innovation' Avanti programme.

A new Design guide for steel railway bridges has been published by the Steel Construction Institute. The guide covers steel and composite bridge design with contributions from leading consultants and contractors in the rail sector. As well as design issues the guide looks at working in short track possessions and near to live lines.
