Piling gets underway at Shard of Glass

Piling was underway in earnest on the 310m tall Shard of Glass tower near London Bridge this week.

When NCE visited the site this week, work was underway on the 900mm diameter secant wall and on the larger 1,500mm and 1,800mm diameter piles.

Stent is carrying out the main piling contract. The concrete package has recently been awarded to Byrne Brothers and the steel sub-contract is to be awarded in the next couple of weeks, according to project manager Mace.

The WSP Cantor Seinuk and Renzo Piano designed 80 storey tower will be the tallest in the UK and is scheduled for completion by the middle of 2012.
