Peacey in our time

In response to Charles Peacey's letter (NCE 10 October) regarding ICE's recent participation in the London Open House weekend, I am sorry that Mr Peacey did not have the time on to join a tour.

The several hundred visitors who did gave very positive comments about the experience.

One Great George Street is usually closed at the weekend, and because of health and safety and security issues we cannot allow unrestricted access to the building. In light of events last year, security at the ICE has been tightened, given our close proximity to Westminster As the 400,000 strong countryside march was taking place one hundred meters from the entrance to the building, it was prudent to err on the side of caution. Access to the building was controlled to protect ICE staff, the building and other visitors.

Unfortunately, given these factors, we were unable to allow people to have unrestricted access to the building. I hope that Mr Peacey will be able to join us for a full tour next year.
