I am rather taken aback by this news item and find it disengenuous. I am a chartered civil engineer with membership of two institutions, ICE and CIHT, with 30+ years experience and was made redundant in the spring from a senior position in a consultants. I have been applying for posts since then without any success, not even attaining an interview. Despite recruitment agencies telling me I have a very strong cv with the amount and breadth of my experience I am being told I am too experienced for jobs of slightly lower grade than I was on or not an exact fit for posts at a similar level. Therefore, I find comments that recruiters cannot fill senior posts very alien to what I am experiencing. What seens to be happening is that recruiters are lazily requiring this exact fit (which not actually be achievable) and overlook the fact that as engineers we are taught to think and be able to solve problems, I certainly was at university. Therefore, even though I might not be totally proficient in a skill immediately, I can learn as that is what I was taught to do!
