Partnering boosts Miller profit

STRONG EMPHASIS on partnering work helped Miller increase pre-tax profits by 25% during the first half of the year, according to results published yesterday.

Partnered and private finance work accounts for 89% of Miller's current order book.

During the first half, Miller made pre-tax profits of pounds4.8M, compared with pounds3.9M in the corresponding period of 1997. Turnover was pounds174M, compared with pounds144.2M.

Contracting activities produced an operating profit of pounds611,000 compared to pounds496,000 a year ago. Construction turnover was up at pounds125M from pounds104.4M.

Civils orders are currently running at pounds93M, 15% above the figure for this time last year.
