The suggestion that regional railway companies are created to take over and operate the trains and track (NCE 27 July), would require each company to have a name to reflect its geographic area.

So for the southern part of Britain, how about Southern Railway (SR). For the west, we could have the Great Western Railway (GWR), or even better God's Wonderful Railway.

Then for the central area we could have the London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS).

For the east and north east, there could be the London and North East Railway (LNER).

Now that really would be progress.
