Non-SNP MSPs for the Lothians formed a 'Save our Trams' campaign last week. According to Edinburgh Central MSP and former environment minister Sarah Boyack, a decision in parliament last week to end the toll regime on the Forth Road Bridge will worsen congestion, thussupporting the case for trams.

'It is not responsible to cancel major transport projects, which can take 10-to-15 years, once they are under way, ' she said.

'Delays with the tram and airport schemes may lead to the civil engineering expertise migrating to the Olympics and mainland Europe.
