Opportunities for women

THE WHEELS for an Equal Opportunities Forum for the ICE have been set in motion at Council. After last September's rejection of a women's forum on the grounds that the remit would be too narrow, it is hoped that the interests of a burgeoning female membership would be catered for by the approved body.

'The number of female students in universities is growing rapidly. In some, it is now up to 20%. At one university in Malaysia half the students are women,' said President Sir Alan Cockshaw.

The proposed forum answers future framework recommendations that ICE should encourage more women into the profession and review women's participation annually.

Draft terms of reference will be based on those used by Construction Industry Council which launched an equal opportunities task force last week.
