The ICE Council has made a clear stand against discrimination by approving the establishment of an Equal Opportunities Forum.
A Women's Forum had originally been proposed to tackle the worryingly low number of female ICE members. The Council had rejected this proposal, feeling that it was too 'narrow', and proposed an Equal Opportunities group as an alternative.
The forum's terms of reference include:
ensuring equal opportunities in training and professional development;
instigating research into obstacles against equal opportunities in the industry and associated professions.
advertising the 'caring side' of the profession by welcoming diversity of gender, race, religion and age, and nurturing this by mentoring and support networks.
The forum has produced papers on opportunities for older members and career flexibility.
