Construction of the Mechtenberg footbridges in Germany is on target for completion ahead of the 21 June opening date. A team of architects and consultants from Buro Happold and Frei Otto designed the £1.6M steel structures (NCE 31 Jan 2002). The bridges comprise 70mm diameter solid steel rods clamped together to make up the fan shaped configuration. The first 130m long bridge crosses a main road and a stream (pictured).
