On the spot

Name: Eddie McEwan Job title: Project director Education: Paisley Polytechnic - 'a wonderful college'.

Jobs: 'From Nigeria to Sri Lanka and Dubai, they all have their special challenges but ...'

Best job: Possibly Pergau Dam in Malaysia. Despite the political controversy, a huge engineering and geotechnical challenge, especially the underground powerhouse and the 550m pressure shaft. Won an Institution medal for the work.

... and the worst: Pergau for the politics but also Oshogbo-Ede water supply scheme in Nigeria with complex logistics for 900km of water pipes in 'bush and towns'.

Anything else: I play the bagpipes on site at barbecues. Haggis has been ordered.
