On the spot

Name: Mike Burnett

Age: 44

Qualifications: BSc, MBA, CEng, MICE, FIHT

Current job: Regional director (southern), Ringway Highway Services

Best things about the job: The company is always progressing and it is very satisfying to be at the cutting edge of innovation. There are always new challenges to be met which means that each day is different from the previous one.

... and the worst: I don't think there are any apart from the hours but that is part of the job.

Career high points: The most enjoyable projects I have been involved with have been marine civil engineering based. My favourite projects were construction of an offshore breakwater at Ramsgate and a land reclamation project in Sheerness.

Anything else?: I used to love playing with toy diggers when I was a child, now I get to play with full size ones as well as my kids' toys!
