On the geotechnical trail - 1

CIVILS 2005

Geotechnical exhibitors at Civils 2005 will be easily identifiable - all will be on the Geotechnical Trail, set up by organisers to help visitors find geotechnical companies which will be scattered throughout the National Hall at Olympia.

Exhibitors on the trail will be labelled with Ground Engineering's logo.

40 Seven www.40seven. com UK underground utility surveying fi m 40Seven combines in-house expertise, technology and flexible surveying solutions to deliver any project - from a premium service to a simple mark out.

Stand H17 ABC Anchors www. abcanchors.co.uk ABC Anchors distributes and manufactures AB Chance helical screw anchors. At Civils the firm will be showing anchors and components covering ultimate capacities up to 440KN per anchor in tension or compression. A sample of its huge range of installation equipment from hand-held up to kit for 50t excavators will also be on show.

A new addition is the ABC 350 lightweight anchor driver designed to install helical screw anchors up to 3500NM with a capacity up to 100KN. The compact unit consists of a high torque reversible motor, planetary gearbox and overhung hollow shaft to allow long anchors to pass through the housing. A torque arm with calibrated gauge gives an instant torque readout. It is quiet in operation and suited for use with the company's 38mm square or 60mm round anchors.

The association promotes the critical contribution that consultants and engineers, working in the built and natural environment, make to the nation's developing infrastructure. ACE represents more than 800 member fi ms operating across a range of disciplines.

Stand C18 Allen Watson www. allenwatson.com The trenchless technology company will be displaying its range of installation techniques, including directional drilling, impact pipe ramming, auger boring, guided auger boring, down-the-hole rock drilling and moling for a range of projects.

Stand H5 Anchor Systems (Europe) www. anchorsystems.co.uk Anchor Systems (Europe) supplies ground anchoring systems for temporary and permanent works and rapidly installed minipiles. Operating throughout the UK and many parts of Europe, the firm has expertise in geotechnical and structural stabilisation and offers technical support, including advice, design specification and site testing services as well as product installation, if required. Products include Duckbill mechanical ground anchors, helical anchors, Excalibur anchor bolts and Grundtuben 'instant' mini-piles.

Stand G5 Aperio www. aperio.co.uk Visit Aperio's stand to find out what is new in non-destructive investigation and geophysical surveys. The exhibit will feature live demonstrations of the Reveal construction database of UK road construction and show how advanced imaging and inspection technologies can help improve maintenance and management of railways, airports and other structures.

Stand A1 Applied Geotechnical Engineering www. ageoteng.co.uk Applied Geotechnical Engineering will be introducing its new retaining wall concept, the AGEwall at Civils, along with recent developments the fi m has made in videogrammetry monitoring. Digital videogrammetry offers an accurate method for structural monitoring, including long term heave/settlement/distortion of a building. The digital system allows comparison of videos from different surveys and movements can be detected where they occur rather than at discrete survey points. The company's core business is geotechnical consultancy, providing design, advice and problem solving services informed by substantial contracting experience.

Stand A11 Aspin Foundations www. aspingroup.com Aspin's Steel Pin Foundation offers a method of creating foundation structures at a fraction of the cost of standard methods, the firm claims.

The system was tested by Network Rail and has been approved for railway use. Aspin Foundations and the Aspin Group provides consultation, installation and implementation of the system for railway superstrutures and other applicatons. The firm also has equipmetn for installing augured or driven steel tubular piles in restricted sites.

Stand B6 Atkins www. atkinsglobal.com Atkins plans, designs and enables the delivery of complex capital programmes for clients in the public and private sectors across the world. Atkins is the largest multidisciplinary consultancy in Europe;

the largest engineering consultancy in the UK, and the fourth largest design firm in the world.

Stand D14 Autodesk www. autodesk.co.uk Autodesk delivers spatial software for the construction industry, allowing integration of design and geospatial data across groups and departments. This helps civil engineers, GIS managers and other professionals create, manage and share spatial information and deliver realtime information. Autodesk Civil 3D, based on AutoCAD 2006 software, provides dynamic modelling technology, so changes are reflected instantly throughout the project, which the firm says allows projects are completed faster, more accurately and within budget.

Stand H20 Bonar Technical Fabrics www. bonartf.com Bonar Technical Fabrics is a division of Low & Bonar. The firm manufactures woven and nonwoven geotextile products, including a wide selection of woven polypropylene, polyester and polyethylene products together with a choice of both needle-punched and thermally bonded nonwovens. Its SNW fabrics are high quality needle punched nonwoven geotextiles used to protect geomembrane liners in both new landfill and reservoir construction.

The SNW range has very high puncture resistance, offering protection initially against installation damage and long term stress cracking.

Stand G35 Bureau Veritas www. bureauveritas.co.uk Bureau Veritas specialises in QHSE (quality, health, safety and environment) management and social accountability. The firm's network covers 140 countries and includes 600 offices and laboratories, with 18 offices and more than 1,000 staff in the UK. At Civils the company will show its range of technical services and solutions in the fields of certification, conformity assessment, consulting and training.

Stand L14 Buro Happold www. burohappold. com Consultant Buro Happold's Infrastructure Group is drawn from a combination of civil engineering, planning and environmental backgrounds and prides itself on its strong communication and integrated expertise. This multi-disciplinary approach allows it to forge close relationships with clients and deliver engineering solutions and environments that work.

Stand P40 C Scope International www. cscope. co. uk C.Scope International is a manufacturer of pipe and cable locators and metal detectors. Its cable avoidance tool and signal generator range of products has achieved widespread acceptance in the UK construction, civil engineering, rail and utility markets since it was launched five years ago.
