Olympic projects update

A shortlist of contractors to build the 2012 Aquatics centre was revealed last week, two years later than originally planned. Hochtief, Eiffel and Balfour Beatty will now enter into a competitive dialogue with the ODA, with the contract awarded at the end of the year.

They will develop the design by Zaha Hadid and Arup, originally appointed in 2005 with a view to project completion by 2008. Following a cost review, designs were altered in November last year and the project is now due to complete in 2011.

A shortlist of bidders to design and build the 2012 International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre was also revealed last week. The bidders are Babcock & Brown with Balfour Beatty and BDP Architects; Bouygues with Development Securities and Hopkins Architects; Carillion with Igloo and Allies & Morrison Architects; Rosemund with Norwest Holst and Hadfi eld Cawkdell Davidson Architects.
