OBE for Masterton in Queen's birthday honours

Past president of the ICE Gordon Masterton topped the list of engineers feted on the Queen's Birthday Honours List last week.

Masterton was awarded the OBE for services to civil engineering in Scotland.

ICE members also awarded the OBE were University of Manchester Emeritus Professor Frederick Michael Burdekin for services to nuclear safety.

Edinburgh City Council public safety officer Brian Sibbald was rewarded for services to local government and to the community in Edinburgh and London Borough of Hillingdon traffic and road safety manager John Arthur Webster for his services to local government.

CITB-Construction Skills chief executive Peter Lobban received the OBE for services to further education, skills and training. Founder and chief executive of sustainable transport charity Sustrans John Grimshaw was awarded the CBE for services to the development of the National Cycle Network.

James Stewart MacKay was awarded an MBE for services to the environment in South East Wales Costain highways specialist Colin Mitton was also awarded an MBE for his contribution to civil engineering and health and safety on the Holmesdale Tunnel project on the M25.
