The UK's $90bn decommissioning price tag is something of an estimate. UKAEA has put a cost on decommissioning each of its sites, but BNFL is in the early stages of assessing what work must be done. Available costs for BNFL sites are for 2005-6 only, and include operation and maintenance alongside decommissioning. Spending will rise as decommissioning programmes accelerate.
