Nuclear fool

Letters

Your editorial Cooling on nuclear power was wellbalanced but for the serious misconception that more renewable energy could reverse global warming.

Implementation of the Kyoto Accord will only delay matters by about 3%. So what is likely in 50 years takes 52 years; 100 years becomes 103 years!

I fully support the case for renewables with assured output, and reluctantly accept that the generation needs of the country might not be met without a new phase of nuclear.

But I feel that as a profession we should be doing what we can to turn the country's attention away from the idea that some magic will reverse global warming, towards proper planning of the extra defences we need - and that many less fortunate peoples around the world will also need.
