NRA 2001 - the categories

Major Project of the Year For schemes over £5M, completed on time and budget between 1 May 2000 and 30 April 2001. The winner will be a project that has enhanced railway operations.

Best Maintenance Company An opportunity for maintenance companies to show they are the best and that they exceed customer expectations. Open to large and small companies alike, the award is about quality of service, effectiveness, initiative and innovation.

Project of the Year For schemes under £5M and completed between 1 May 2000 and 30 April 2001. The winner will be a project which has had a significant impact on railway operations and was completed both within budget and to schedule Rail Personality A chance to shine for an individual who has made a significant difference for customers.

Open to any individual from frontline operational and maintenance staff to chief executives, directors and chairmen.

Achievement of the Year The ultimate award for the person - or company - who has done the most to further the cause of the railway industry in the public eye.

Best Rail Route To recognise and reward the successful combination of operator, maintenance contractor and Railtrack which is crucial to ensure a rail route is top class.

Station of the Year The top accolade for the station which excels in giving customers everything they expect! In association with Railtrack.

Best Operator A chance for train operators to prove they are the best through sustained improvements and great customer service.

Innovation of the Year This is open to individuals or teams throughout the industry who can demonstrate imaginative and effective innovation.

Most Significant Contribution to Safety Safety is paramount and this category is open to any company - or individual - who can show that their proposal will significantly improve railway safety, but also the public perception of safe rail travel.

Freight Achievement of the Year This is open to any individual or company to have made a real contribution to developing rail freight business in the UK.

Back on Track This new award for 2001 recognises that the last year has been very difficult for the railway industry. The winner will have shown real commitment to rebuilding railway confidence.
