American geotechnical guru Ralph Peck will be at the Institution on 3 May as the main speaker at the joint Ground Board/British Geotechnical Society organised half day meeting 'Observational method in perspective'. Peck co-authored the seminal 1948 'Soil mechanics in engineering practice' with Karl Terzaghi, and is largely credited with developing the observational method.
Professor John Burland will chair the meeting, which will also include contributions from Alan Powderham of Mott MacDonald and Ove Arup's Duncan Nicholson. The meeting starts at 2.00pm.
