North America and UK prove tough for Atkins

Atkins chairman Allan Cook yesterday told its annual shareholder meeting that economic conditions in the UK “remain difficult”.

Cook also said Atkins’ North American construction management business was severely impacting the region’s overall revenues.

However, he said workload in the Middle East had increased while Asia Pacific and European businesses were trading in line with expectations, with continuing weak market conditions in both Ireland and Portugal.

A resolution to approve the directors’ remuneration was the most voted against resolution of the meeting. Of those who voted, 70% voted for the resolution while 30% voted against. However, it was also the resulotion with the most abstaining voters.
