Lankelma claims its new SI Road-Railer train truck is a site investigation world first.

'There are other similar systems but they are not used for cone testing, ' said the rm's business develop ment manager Rob Gardiner. 'No one else has taken rail stock and integrated it with a CPT truck.'

Lankelma said the train truck is multifunctional, with hydraulic and electric takeoff points, allowing ballast sampling to be carried out concurrently with soil tests.

It has the capability to host a ground penetrating radar system and is fitted with a differential global positioning system. The road wheels enable it to get onto the track at most access points.

Michael Foster, MP for Hastings and Rye, was to perform the launch ceremony at the Tenterden Steam Railway in Kent on 28 April.
