Nexus invites bids for Tyne & Wear Metro track renewal framework

Tyne & Wear Metro operator Nexus has invited bidders to tender for a new track renewals framework.

The work is part of the firm’s £389M asset renewal plan, covering the period between 2010 and 2021.

The permanent way renewals framework is likely to be for a minimum of 36 months and Nexus expects to appoint a single contractor for the work.

The scope of the framework includes: full track renewals; ballast; switch and crossing renewals; track drainage; signal testing; and overhead line adjustment.

The first project to be awarded under the framework will be the renewal of track between Northumberland Park and Tynemouth Metro Stations. This work will be priced and evaluated as part of the framework tender process with the work package awarded to the successful bidder.
