The Strategic Rail Authority's long awaited strategic plan is nearly ready, chief executive Mike Grant said last week. It is hoped it will be released before the end of November.

Chairman Sir Alastair Morton, due to be replaced in December by Richard Bowker, had no involvement in the plan, Grant said. Speaking at a transport select committee meeting he admitted that he did not realise how complex the plan was and that it had been a mistake not to finish it earlier.
