Construction is five years behind the aerospace industry in implementing supply chain management, said researchers at Reading University.

Aerospace is gaining greater benefits by applying processes throughout businesses compared to construction which operates on a project by project basis. The research is part-funded by Mowlem, NG Bailey and Forticrete.

Kent County Council has made a bid for greater government funding for transport projects. It wants £7M for bus routes, £700,000 for a new bridge at Maidstone and £1M for safety schemes, speed cameras and signs.

Birse Civils has won a £3.7M flood defence work at the estuary of the River Severn, at Lydney in Gloucestershire.
