WS Atkins has paid £630,000 for systems integration specialist Boward Computer Services to add to its expanding systems engineering business. Boward employs 40 staff and turned over £1.9M in the year ending 31 March 2001.

Skanska Construction's Hong Kong based subsidiary Gammon Construction has won a £29M contract to construct a logistics centre for Tradeport Hong Kong at Chek Lap Kok airport.

Average payment periods in the construction industry are almost unchanged since legislation giving small firms the right to interest on late payments was introduced in 1998, according to a survey by business information specialist Experian. Overall, the average in all UK sectors saw payment periods rise by 0.71 days since November 2000, compared with a 0.05 day increase in the construction industry.

The Health & Safety Executive has published guidance on how to survey workplaces for materials containing asbestos ahead of regulations next year which will require over 1M commercial buildings in the UK to be surveyed for asbestos.
