Alfred McAlpine has won a £5.5M contract to construct a bridge over the River Irwell in Manchester. The contract is the latest phase of the inner relief route which will link Manchester city centre with Salford in time for the Commonwealth Games in July 2002. The three span bridge will have a steel superstructure and steel and composite deck, on reinforced concrete piers.
