Award of seven large reconstruction contracts for Iraq has been delayed by a month. The Coalition Provisional Authority blamed the delay on late finalisation of tender documents.

lIran is considering moving its capital away from seismically active Tehran to a safer part of the country. The idea was first considered 10 years ago when Iranian scientists warned that a powerful earthquake could claim as many as 720,000 lives. Last month's earthquake in Bam has reopened the debate.

Plans for a retractable fabric and steel truss roof over Wimbledon tennis club's centre court have been unveiled. The lightweight fabric structure allows light to filter through when the roof is closed, and folds like a concertina when not in use. Structural engineer for the project is UK firm Symonds and main contractor for the design and build contract is Galliford Try. Construction is expected to start in 2006.
