High-Point Rendel has won a US$2.4M contract to develop preliminary designs for a road tunnel under the Italian port of Genoa, with Italian consultants D'Appolonia and Technital, and Dutch firm Tunnel Engineering Consultants. Options for the 1.8km two or three lane dual carriageway link include bored and cut and cover tunnel. Costs will be around US$625M.

The European Investment Bank has loaned the Czech capital Prague US$94M for repairs to its underground Metro system, which was severely damaged by the August 2002 floods. The loan will part finance ongoing work to replace power supplies, safety and communication equipment in 17 Metro stations and repairs to 20km of tunnels.
