Royal Mail has announced plans to mothball its underground railway in London.

The line is used to transport mail from main depots in Whitechapel and Kings Cross to Paddington station.

London Underground's £1bn East London Line Extension from Whitechapel to Dalston in north London lies in the hands of Tower Hamlets and Hackney borough councils. A High Court judge last week passed down the ruling to the councils to decide whether a Grade II listed goods yard in Bishopsgate should be demolished as part of the works.
