Environment Agency chairman Sir John Harman challenged smaller construction firms to improve their environmental performance as he unveiled new construction guidelines on the NetRegs website last week.

Construction has been chosen as the first of around 100 business sectors to be included on the website, which aims to explain complex environmental regulations in plain language.

FaberMaunsell is working with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames on a major review of the roads and street environment in east Twickenham. The study includes a wide range of measures, including air quality, bus routes and removal of street sign clutter.

An £8.8M contract has been awarded by the Highways Agency to Birse Civils to install extensive communication equipment on the M4 between junctions 12 and 14. It will include gantries across the full width of the carriageways and slip roads.
