Carillion Rail has been awarded the £92M infrastructure maintenance contract by Union Railways for section One of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link covering 74km from the tunnel to Fawkham junction in north Kent. The firm is also part of a group just awarded a £120M design build contract for track and overhead line on CTRL section Two into London.

Go ahead for construction on the long awaited 90 000 seat Wembley National Stadium was expected to be announced this week.

Demolition should begin shortly to make way for the estimated £320M construction by Australian firm Multiplex of the Sir Norman Foster arched design. Completion is expected in 2006.
