Consultant Atkins is to design a £7.5M redevelopment and modernisation of Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital. Work is expected to begin in September.

The Highways Agency is inviting bids for the construction of a new high-level bridge spanning the Swale between the Isle of Sheppey and the Kent mainland. The winning consortium will design, build, finance and operate the 17km, £80M project for 30 years. The contract will be awarded in 2003, with the crossing open by 2006.
