Consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff has been registered with the building research body BRE to carry out environmental assessments of buildings in the UK.

Alan Osborne has been appointed as Health & Safety Executive director of railway safety. The post has been created in response to a recommendation made in Lord Cullen's report into the Ladbroke Grove train crash.

Osborne has previously worked in safety related posts in the chemical industry, for London Underground and BAA.

Amec has been appointed to undertake a £22M upgrade of Heathrow airport's southern runway. The contract is part of a five year framework deal agreed with airport operator BAA. It involves resurfacing, widening and strengthening works on the 3.66km runway to make it suitable for larger aircraft.
