The Building Sites Award for best public access to a building site has been launched by Janet Street Porter. Up to £5,000 can be won by the company that opens up sites to the public in the most effective way, using techniques such as portholes in hoardings or webcams. The Health & Safety Executive is continuing its construction site 'blitzes' across the country, last week visiting sites in Wales, south west England and the East Midlands. The visits are part of a 12 month rolling programme of inspections that started in April.

Railtrack Scotland has launched two new websites designed to warn the public about the dangers of railway crime. www. trackoff. org provides information for schoolteachers and children, while www. crimeofftheline. org is aimed at adults.
