Renewed calls for a unified voice to promote civil engineering were made at Civils 2002. Young Engineers director David Rowley said fragmentation of bodies and voices crippled lobbying attempts.

Sustainability charity Forum For The Future's director of business affairs George Martin has called for five logistics super-centres around London.

Speaking at the Civils 2002 Implementing Sustainable Construction seminar Martin claimed facilities modelled on the Heathrow Terminal 5 Consolidation Centre for distributing construction materials would drastically reduce traffic congestion.
