Contractor Carillion was waiting for a weather window to begin jacking operations on the troubled Glasgow Science Centre tower as NCE went to press. Main bearing failure lead to closure of the unique 105m tall rotating structure in March (NCE 7 March). Jacks are in place in the foundation pit and operations to raise the entire structure up 20mm will begin as soon as winds drop, a Carillion spokesman said on Tuesday.
