Reforms to the planning system designed to speed the delivery of major infrastructure projects took a step forward this week when the planning and compulsory purchase bill returned to standing committee. The bill will speed up public inquiries by allowing teams of inspectors to listen to evidence concurrently. At present one inspector must listen to all evidence consecutively. The bill is expected to receive Royal Assent in March.
