A speed-restricted 2.5km stretch of the M6 between junctions 3 and 4 is to be completely resurfaced after Highways Agency engineers concluded that long term mining-induced subsidence had effectively ceased. Since October 2001 the road has subsided 1.5m compared to a predicted 1.8m, but movement now is said to be negligible.
