RMC Building Products has won the innovation award in the inaugural British Precast Best Practice competition for its Stepsafe modular platform system, developed in alliance with consultant Mott MacDonald and contractor Laing Rail. Aggregate Industries picked up both the safety and environment awards.

The ICE has formed a working group to develop a position on corporate manslaughter charges being brought against civil engineers as a result of the Hatfield rail disaster. Chaired by Peter Hansford of Theobald Gardiner, the group is scheduled to meet for the first time next month.
