Construction output rose in the first half of 2004 compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.

Department of Trade & Industry figures show £39.8bn worth of work was carried out in the first six months of 2004, up from £37.6bn in 2003. The second quarter of 2004 also saw a 1% jump in output from the preceding three month period and a 6% month increase on the 2003 figure. The second quarter of 2004 also saw a rise in the amount of new work against the previous year, despite a drop in the infrastructure sector.
