'Soft' engineering, creating parks, wetlands and paths, will be used for future flood defence in the Thames Gateway. A strategic flood risk assessment study to plan building and green space locations will be carried out over coming months, commissioned by a group comprising the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, London Development Agency, the Environment Agency and the Thames Gateway London Partnership.

A wastewater treatment plant for Peterborough is among four new projects awarded by Anglian Water Services to a joint venture of Skanska and Aker Kvaerner. The £7M Whittlesey works will replace an existing aged plant.
