An Early Day Motion was put down in Parliament this week suggesting that the monument for the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square be dedicated to British science, engineering and technology. The motion was tabled by Brian Cotter MP.

The public inquiry into plans to improve the A303 near Stonehenge opens in Salisbury next week. Representatives from the Highways Agency will present proposals for the project and an independent inspector will hear objections or suggestions.

Carlton TV and Discovery Home & Leisure are making a new TV series called House Race. Two families will compete to build houses from scratch in seven days using timber supplied by South Wales based timber designers Benfield ATT.

The race will take place at St Martin's Square in Birmingham and the winning family will receive £30,000 towards its own self-build project.
