Bank tube station is to be completely remodelled to expand passenger capacity for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), Jubilee line, Thameslink 2000 and Crossrail projects.

Consultant Scott Wilson is producing the masterplan for the station which is due to be complete in February.

Countryside campaigners are lobbying deputy prime minister John Prescott to prevent urban developments swallowing parts of Swindon and Wiltshire. The Campaign to Protect Rural England said last week that Swindon Borough Council is set to grant planning permission for 4,500 new homes on greenfield land before the opportunity to develop brownfield sites has been exhausted.

A joint venture between consultant Balfour Beatty, contractor AWG and building services engineer Haden Young is preferred bidder for a £521M PFI hospital in Birmingham. The Acute & Adult Psychiatric Hospital will be Birmingham's first new hospital in 70 years.
