The French government has announced plans for a series of major extensions to its high speed rail and motorway networks by 2012. Plans include extending the high speed line between Paris and southern France to Nimes and Montpelier and an extension of the western branch of the high speed rail system into Brittany.

Award of seven large reconstruction contracts for Iraq has been delayed by a month. The Coalition Provisional Authority blamed the delay on late finalisation of tender documents.
