The Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment (CABE) has put its weight behind plans to build the tallest building in Europe at London Bridge. The scheme, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, would provide a new bus station and public piazza as well as modernisation of London Bridge station.

A joint venture of contractors Cleveland Bridge and Balfour Beatty has won a US-36M contract to supply 256 bridges to the Philippines. A combination of truss and beam structures will be supplied to the Department of Public Works & Highways to replace damaged and obsolete bridges.

Consultant Nippon Koei UK has been appointed to carry out feasibility studies and preliminary design for two extensions of the Great Man Made River water supply system in Libya. Together, the schemes will involve installation of up to 800km of 4m diameter pipe.
