The Queen Isabella Causeway in Texas has reopened after 68 days of round the clock repairs. Three 24m sections of the 3.8km viaduct collapsed when an unprotected pier was struck by a barge, killing eight people in Setpember last years. The repairs were completed 31 days ahead of schedule, earning contractor Williams Brothers a -0.7M bonus on the ú3M contract.

Australia's New South Wales government last week approved plans for the 3.4km Lane Cove Tunnel through Sydney's northern suburbs. The tunnel will complete the final link in the city's orbital motorway network.
