The Irish civil and electrical engineering sectors are expected to grow at around 16%, according to the Irish government's annual review of construction. Other sectors of the construction industry will grow at 6%, just half the average rate of growth since 1994. Overall construction spending is expected to reach a record IRú15bn ($17bn) this year, making output per capita the highest in the European Union.

The newly merged British Consultants & Construction Bureau (BCCB) has appointed Malcolm Day as director of international construction. Day is responsible for lobbying government on overseas construction issues and promoting UK contractors abroad.
